BELLEVILLE - Maija Thompson no longer takes schooling or a simple glass of water for granted.

The 12-year-old Belleville student knows there are many less fortunate children who would treasure going to school or enjoying a glass of potable water like she does every day.

The Grade 7 student at St. Joseph's Catholic has managed to raise $8,500 over the past four years and that money will be used to help build a one-room school at Cinco de Marzo, Chiapas, Mexico, this spring.

OTTAWA - Jim Watson, MPP for Ottawa West-Nepean, joined hospital officials from Queensway Carleton Hospital and The Ottawa Hospital, construction workers and community members this week to celebrate a major milestone in the construction of a new satellite cancer centre at the Queensway Carleton Hospital. The event follows a donation announcement by Dan and Roger Greenberg who are each donating $1 million to the new cancer centres at Queensway Carleton Hospital and The Ottawa Hospital.
