WWF HOPES FOR POLAR BEAR PLAN E-mail

Scientists, wildlife management boards, Inuit groups and conservationists are among at least 30 people gathered to take part in the round table, called by Environment Minister Jim Prentice.

 recycling_computers.jpgVANCOUVER - During these difficult times, everyone is tightening their belts. Many charities, non profit organizations, and community groups feel the pinch the most. Donations are small, infrequent, and few in-between.

Having computers is a major requirement to carry on most functions any charitable or non profit organization does. Simple tasks such as, record keeping, email, and communication efforts, that can be accomplished on very basic computers are not possible. The charities can't just go and buy a bunch of computers from the store, so they rely on donations.

AUTO SHOW CHARITY RAISES $343,305 E-mail

MONTREAL - The Montréal International Auto Show (MIAS) Charity Preview evening, which took place January 15, 2009, helped raise $343,305 to benefit five worthy causes within the Greater Montreal's medical community: the Montréal Sacré-Coeur Hospital Foundation, the Pierre-Boucher Hospital Foundation, the Foundation du Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal, the McGill University Health Centre Foundation and the Santa Cabrini Foundation. This fund raising event was presented and sponsored by the Montreal Automobile Dealers Corporation Foundation and the Palais des congrès de Montréal.

INCREASE CHARITABLE CREDIT IN STIMULUS PACKAGE E-mail

HAMILTON - Cardus, a think tank dedicated to the renewal of Canada's social architecture, is recommending that the federal government increase charitable tax credits from 29 per cent to 42 per cent as part of its stimulus package.

"Adopting this proposal will be a sound investment in Canada's social architecture," said Ray Pennings, Cardus' director of research. "The charitable sector is critical to the rich fabric of Canadian society, and provides taxpayers exceptional return on investment."
