CIBC RAISES $7M FOR UNITED WAY E-mail

TORONTO – CIBC employees and retirees have once again opened their wallets to generously support United Way of Canada - Centraide Canada and its work towards improving the social conditions of Canadians. CIBC raised a total of $7 million, including a $2.9 million corporate donation, for United Way in 2008

“In challenging economic times like today, it's more important than ever to help support those who truly need it,” said Gerry McCaughey, CIBC’s president and chief executive officer.

AT&T GLOBAL SERVICES CANADA HELPS ALLEVIATE HUNGER E-mail

TORONTO – AT&T Global Services Canada has announced a contribution of USD$12,500 to Meal Exchange, a Canadian-based, national student-founded, youth-driven charitable organization. This donation will allow the organization to further its goal to help eliminate the root causes of hunger and poverty by engaging tomorrow’s leaders, today. Specifically, the funds from AT&T Global Services Canada will be used to enhance education initiatives and support Hunger Awareness Week set to occur on various campuses across the nation.

WORLD VISION, HPIC AIRLIFT MEDICATION TO ZIMBABWE E-mail

MISSISSAUGA – World Vision and Health Partners International of Canada (HPIC) will be airlifting more than $4 million shipment of cholera medications to Zimbabwe this week, with the support of the Canadian government. Some 38,000 people have suffered from the disease that has already claimed more than 1,900 lives since August and the epidemic is expected to spread as the peak of the rainy season begins this month, World Vision says.

SAMARITAN'S PURSE DEPLOYS DISASTER RELIEF UNIT E-mail

CALGARY – Samaritan’s Purse Canada is sending its Disaster Relief Unit to Chilliwack to help local emergency officials and residents clean up after heavy snowfalls and torrential rains caused mudslides and severe overland flooding. More than 200 homes have been damaged – some of them severely – and at least 64 people have been forced out of their homes.
