TORONTO - Dairy Queen (DQ) Canada today announced the seventh annual
Canadian Miracle Treat Day, a one day fundraiser taking place on
Thursday, August 13, 2009. On that day, proceeds from every Blizzard
sold at participating Dairy Queens across Canada will be donated to
Children's Miracle Network hospitals.
Local celebrities, Children's Miracle Network ambassadors and DQ executives across the country will lend their time and support to serve Blizzards on Miracle Treat Day.
Leah Miller, Host of CTV's So You Think You Can Dance Canada, Blake McGrath, Special Guest Judge and Choreographer on CTV's So You Think You Can Dance Canada and CTV's So You Think You Can Dance Canada Top 10 Finalists Kaitlyn Fitzgerald and Lara Smythe kicked off the national fundraiser at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto today. So You Think You Can Dance Canada premieres Tuesday, August 11 at 8 p.m. ET and Wednesday, August 12 at 8 p.m. ET on CTV.
"Miracle Treat Day brings Canadians together to make a difference in the lives of sick children and their families across our country," said Leah Miller, Host of CTV's So You Think You Can Dance Canada. "I am honoured to be part of this day and I encourage everyone to buy a Blizzard on August 13 and raise the most money yet for Children's Miracle Network."
Last year, Dairy Queen Canada's Miracle Treat Day and associated activities helped raise almost $2 million for the Children's Miracle Network, a non-profit organization that raises funds for more than 170 children's hospitals across North America. Dairy Queen has been a supporter of Children's Miracle Network since 1984, raising more than $77 million since then.
Miracle Treat Day began as a Canadian initiative to raise funds seven years ago and its success prompted Dairy Queen locations across the United States to adopt the initiative. August 13, 2009 will mark the fourth annual North American Miracle Treat Day.
"We look forward to Miracle Treat Day every year," said Denise Hutton, Vice President of Marketing, Dairy Queen Canada. "It really comes down to the support of our customers and our dedicated franchisees and staff. The success of Miracle Treat Day year after year would not be possible without them."
"By purchasing a Blizzard on Miracle Treat Day you are contributing to creating miracles for more than 2.5 million children in Canada," said Paul Lethbridge, Director, Corporate Development Children's Miracle Network. "All donations received stay local - money raised is directed to the local Children's Miracle Network hospital in that community for medical care, research and educational programs."
